Early Years Foundation Stage: 8.45am – 3pm
Key Stage 1: 8.45am – 3.15pm
Key Stage 2: 9.00am – 3.30pm

Morning Break Time: 10.40am – 10.55am
Lunch Times:  EYFS: 11.40am – 12.40pm Year 1: 11:50am – 12:50pm Year 2: 11:55am – 12:55pm KS2: 12:20pm – 1:00pm
Afternoon Break Time: 2.15pm – 2.30pm

Our morning lessons consist of the core subjects of Phonics, Whole Class Guided Reading, English and Maths.

Our afternoon lessons focus more on wider curriculum subjects, including Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, French, Music, P.E., PSHE, R.E., and Science.

Information about Attendance

At Queens Road Academy we expect our children to attend every day, when the school is in session, if they are fit and healthy enough to do so. We do all we can to encourage the children to attend. We believe that the most important factor in promoting good attendance is development of positive attitudes towards school. To this end we strive to make our school a happy and rewarding experience for all children.

HELPFUL TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • -Help and encourage your child to get everything ready the night before e.g. PE kit, reading book, school uniform etc. Organisation is a key skill that parents are responsible for teaching their child.
  • -Allow plenty of time for the journey by setting off in good time allowing for traffic etc.
  • -Make arrangements with family or friends if you have problems getting your child to school on time
  • -Establish a good bedtime routine so that your child gets enough sleep
  • -Make sure your child eats breakfast at home or arrange to bring to Breakfast Club at school

PUNCTUALITY IS A GOOD THING AND A KEY LIFE SKILL THAT PARENTS SHOULD TEACH THEIR CHILD

Being on time:

  • -Gets the day off to a good start with everyone in a positive frame of mind
  • -Sets positive patterns for the future
  • -Helps your child to make the most of their learning
  • -Helps your child to develop a sense of responsibility for themselves and for others
  • -Helps your child make and keep friends
  • -Leads to success and self confidence

LATENESS IS A BAD HABIT AND SHOWS A LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY AND VALUE FOR EDUCATION

Being late:

  • -Gets the day off to a bad start and can potentially put everyone in a bad mood which can be stressful
  • -Can be embarrassing
  • -Is noticed by others who might make negative comments
  • -May damage your child’s confidence
  • -May lead to your child feeling confused or distressed due to missing out on vital instructions, information and key learning
  • -Disrupts the learning for everyone so it does impact on other people too
  • -Means your child can fall behind in their learning
  • -Creates a bad habit that can be hard to break
  • -Can lead to poor attendance

Q&A ABOUT ATTENDANCE FROM PARENTS/GOVERNORS

  • Where can I find a copy of the attendance policy? –QRA attendance policy v2
  • How do you monitor attendance?  – School attendance is monitored by the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion). She works with families in improving attendance to be the best it can be. Last year’s number of lates/absence was analysed by; percentage absence, number of children, how many times each child was late and total number of minutes lost. -QRA reports this information regularly to school governors
  • How do you monitor lates, what are your trigger points? details of the process i.e. letter.  – The late register is completed by the parent, then staff record this on SIMs (Our computer register), the Inclusion leader checks this weekly and speaks to parents where possible to discuss any issues in person.  Should this require further acknowledgement, warning letters are sent to parents of persistent absentees (amount of sessions and minutes of missed learning) – evidence data sheet sent. Home visits are undertaken if needed. Early Help Assessment initiated if there is a need. Internal panels to support families of pupils who are persistently absent are run each term by the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) and a governor or Headteacher.
  • For any child who was late for 100 mins or more in the summer term what action was taken? – letter sent to the parent explaining that it will be monitored
  • What is your morning timetable for lates?*–  i.e. bell goes at 8.55 – The school bell is rung at 8.55am, doors close at 9am and registers taken. Children who are signed in after 9am at reception are marked as Late (L) for up to 30 minutes late and Unauthorised Late (U) for over 30 minutes – U is the unauthorised mark (10 of these in one term can trigger an Penalty Notice)
  • Do you hold internal panel meetings? If so, who attends and what is the frequency? – Yes – termly meetings are run by the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) and a governor or Headteacher
  • For your annual attendance target do you accept the LA target or do you challenge? – Challenge, we aim to meet this year’s school Target of 96%. The school has improved rates of attendance for the past 3 Years running and we wish to be comparable to National attendance of 96% ASAP.
